Design strategies

Six ways to make a room work harder.

Every home is different, so no project uses all six. We choose the ideas that suit your room, your needs and your budget — always with practical, buildable solutions in mind.

  1. 01

    Small-Space Functional Planning

Better furniture arrangements, circulation and zoning, so more of the floor is usable.

  2. 02

    Concealed Storage

Integrated storage walls, hidden cabinets, built-in shelving and easy-to-reach compartments.

  3. 03

    Raised Platform Storage

Platform beds, storage drawers and raised seating that doubles as storage, where the room suits it.

  4. 04

    Transformable Furniture

Fold-away beds, retractable desks, expandable dining tables and proven furniture mechanisms.

  5. 05

    Custom Storage and Cabinetry

Custom wardrobes, modular cabinetry and practical millwork arranged around how you live.

  6. 06

    Multifunctional Furniture

Pieces that combine compatible uses — seating and storage, desk and dining, sleeping and working.

See it before you build it.

Explore an example room: switch between before and after, open the platform bed, slide out the guest bed, open the storage — and see it in the evening light.

AExisting space

Plan of the existing room: a bed in the middle takes up most of the floor, a desk is squeezed under the window, a freestanding wardrobe and boxes crowd the corners. bed takes mostof the floorboxes —nowhere to godesk squeezed in

BProposed design

Plan of the proposed design: a full-height storage wall on the left, a fold-down desk under the window, and a raised platform bed with drawers along the back-right. A guest bed slides out of the platform onto the open floor when needed. storage wallfold-down deskraised platform beddrawersguest bedslides out

CSmart features

Three features: a concealed storage wall with one door open to show shelves; the front of the raised platform bed with deep drawers, one pulled out; and the platform bed with its top lifted to show storage underneath. ① Concealed storage② Deep drawers③ Lift-up bed storage

DHow it transforms

Three views of how the room changes: by day the desk is open and the guest bed is hidden inside the platform; for guests the desk folds away and the guest bed slides out; and the bed top lifts for storage underneath. 123Day — home officeGuests — bed slides outLift the bed for storage

A spare bedroom that has to work as an office most days and a guest room a few nights a year. A raised platform bed with drawers, lift-up storage and a pull-out guest bed, plus a fold-down desk, a full-height storage wall and overhead cabinets, make the room work for both.
